Cross-Party Support for Schools

Leicester Liberal Democrat education spokesman Cllr. Hussein Suleman is leading the way to set up an all-party group to help raise standards in schools.

Cllr. Suleman informed local press, "We have full confidence in director the of Children's Services and her excellent team and we also have confidence in the head teachers of city schools to face the challenge ahead. The gravity of the situation cannot be underplayed or ignored, but we are confident a sensible and practical approach will succeed." he went on to say that It is with this in mind that we should set-up of an all-party working group.

The Conservative education spokesman agreed there had to be cross-party support.

Council education bosses said the Government has "reminded" them that if standards do not rise it could take over the running of city schools.
