"£60 fine in the post. Happy Christmas from Leicester City Council" - Aylestone Ward Councillor Nigel Porter critical of Leicester City Councils Fining Plan for motorists using 24/7 bus lanes on Lutterworth Road, Aylestone.

LCLD

Aylestone Ward's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Nigel Porter has criticised plans to start fining motorists who use the 24 hour bus lanes along the A426 Lutterworth Road from the end of the month.

Cameras have been placed near the junctions of Middleton Street and Soar Valley Way and will begin from tomorrow, Monday 14th November. Initially motorists are expected to receive warnings from the City Council in the first two weeks.

Councillor Porter is opposed to 24/7 fining of motorists and asks why fining motorists at peak times isn't another option?"

Quoted in the Leicester Mercury on November 11th, Councillor Porter said: "So they are going to start handing out fines just as lots of people start heading into the city centre to do their Christmas Shopping.

Here's a £60 fine. Happy Christmas from Leicester City Council.

I recall the Council arguing that cars in the bus lane weren't really impeding on the buses that much or affecting their journey times so you have to ask why they are doing this other than to make money."
