Events planned for National Domestic Violence Week

A range of events and initiatives are being planned during National

Domestic Violence Week to highlight what support and help is available

to people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The week of events, which run from Monday November 26 to Friday November

30, is being supported by Leicestershire Constabulary, the Safer

Leicester Partnership and Leicestershire County Council with many other

partner agencies organising events and supporting the campaign.

Awareness of domestic violence and the support that is available will be

raised throughout the week across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

with displays in shopping centres, community centres and other busy

public places.

Other events being planned include a get-together for survivors of

domestic abuse; workshops for people working with victims and

perpetrators of domestic violence in the city and county; a drop-in for

young people affected by domestic violence at Connexions; and a social

and fundraising evening.

There are several events planned throughout the week including a

domestic abuse survivor's day, a symposium for practitioners who work

with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, an art exhibition

entitled "awakening" and a social and fundraising event.

Stoneygate Lib Dem Councillor Hussein Suleman said, "If this one week encourages just one victim of domestic abuse to seek help then its worth it."
