Anger as County Council chiefs push on with plan to abolish districts

There's been an angry reaction to the decision last Friday by the Leicestershire Conservative County Council's decision to press on with one Unitary authority for all of Leicestershire. This would mean the abolition of the seven district and Boroughs in the county. The meeting supported Tory council leader Nick Rushton writing to the government on behalf of the county council to signal to government their wish to press on with one unitary authority for the county.

As the Draft Local Plan for Leicester opened today, Opposition Party leader, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Aylestone Ward, Cllr Nigel Porter had this to say: It's unfair and unreasonable to carry out this major public consultation when we're probably on the verge of another major public health crisis. The council are now starting a major public consultation when the BMA has stated that over 80% of doctors think we're on the verge of a second peak in coronavirus infections and new measures are coming into force placing restrictions on people gathering. The local plan could see significant changes in the city and will affect everybody. So it's important people are properly able to engage in any major public consultation process and are able to fully understand what plans are being put forward so they are in a position to properly object. Labour’s Leicester lockdown woes continue. Deputy Mayor for Transport caught out driving with NO MOT or valid Road Tax

The Labour run Leicester City Council are yet again in disarray this week after the Guido Fawkes website, order-order.com exposed Leicester Deputy Mayor, Cllr Adam Clarke as having driven since February 2020 without a valid MOT certificate on his vehicle. Furthermore to add to the issue, the same vehicle has had no Road Fund license paid on it when due on May 1st. Both have since been rectified and in line with the a Labour lockdown rule breakers an apology issued.
