County Council needs to learn lessons from its failures in Adult Social Care

Lib Dems on Leicestershire County Council recently obtained a copy of a Judicial Review that involved the County Council and EMCARE, the consortium that represents private care home providers in the County. The issue that has ended up in front of the high court turned out to be fairly simple - the County Council hadn't monitored nor knew the actual cost of providing a place for an elderly person in a care home in Leicestershire.

Council Tax freeze welcomed but questions remain about the extra money

Following the announcement that the County Council is sticking to its planned freeze of Council Tax for 2012/13, the Liberal Democrats are calling for clarification of what the extra money from the government will be used for. Leicestershire Liberal Democrats believe that the extra money should be used to invest in the local economy, help support job creation (especially youth unemployment), and encourage projects which benefit local communities

Rural Broadband

Expanding the use of the internet requires improvements to the capacity and speed of the internet system. Government policy is to roll out 'super-fast' broadband to 90% of the population by 2015. This roll out is principally focused on urban areas and centres of high economic activity and population, with investment from government (£530m up to 2015 and possibly £300m more up to 2017).
